Write Like Mary Shelley?
Before she turned 20, Mary Shelley created one of the most iconic stories of all time: Frankenstein. It wasn’t just horror—it was a warning, a question, a masterpiece of empathy and invention. And now, it's your turn to carry her legacy forward.
The Mary Shelley Legacy Contest invites student writers to craft a short story about the ethical, emotional, or personal aftermath of scientific innovation. This isn’t about writing a sequel to Frankenstein—it’s about exploring what happens after we create something powerful, and how it reshapes the world (or ourselves).

Why Enter?
This is a writing contest for students who love big ideas:
What happens when a robot wants rights?
How would the world treat a genetically engineered child?
What regrets follow a scientist who “improves” memory?
You don’t need to write horror. You just need to write with thought, tension, and imagination.
Winning entries receive international recognition, digital awards, and a chance to be published in the Legacy Anthology. Plus, we forward top stories to other contests and youth publications on your behalf.
If you’re ready to face the consequences of invention—and write something unforgettable—submit to the Mary Shelley Legacy Contest today.
Next Contest Deadline: September 30th
